The best universities in Australia to study nursing

Looking to pursue a career in nursing? There are 69 undergraduate nursing degrees available to international students in Australia, so you may be struggling to narrow down your list of universities to apply for. There are lots of factors to consider, such as the university location and the facilities on offer — and it’s important to note that there’s no one ‘best’ university. Different universities and courses will be better suited to different people depending on their circumstances.
The Good Universities Guide rankings are designed to highlight a universities’ specific strengths — in this instance, we look at student support, teaching quality, full-time employment and learning resources for undergraduate nursing degrees. These ratings offer an insight to support and guide your decision-making when choosing a nursing course in Australia.
Student support
This rating looks at the proportion of students who were satisfied with the support they received from their institution. The top universities for student support in nursing are Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne with 87.20%, followed by Murdoch University in Western Australia with 84.6%. Student support looks at how students felt they received support while settling into study; the efficiency of enrolment and admissions processes; orientation activities; and administrative staff and services.
Teaching quality
This rating looks at the proportion of students who were satisfied with the quality of teaching they experienced. Swinburne University of Technology took top place again with 95.80% and Federation University Australia ranked second with 94.10%. Teaching quality is based on students’ ratings of their overall educational experience; the quality of teaching they received; and the extent to which students felt lecturers and tutors actively engaged them in and demonstrated concern for learning.
Full-time employment
This rating compares the employment rates of graduates who were employed full time four months after completing their course. James Cook University in Queensland took top spot with a 98.6% employment rate, followed closely by Queensland University of Technology with 98.3%.
Learning resources
This rating looks at the proportion of students who were satisfied with the learning resources provided by their university. Curtin University in Western Australia tops this category with a rating of 93.2% rating, followed by Griffith University with 92.90%.
