3 ways the uni library can be more than a quiet study space
The uni library is a great space to get some serious quiet study time in. But did you know that there librarians are there for more than just telling people to be quiet.
Here are the three ways your uni library can help you:
1. Referencing
Referencing can be confusing enough sometimes. If you're lucky all your subjects will ask for the same referencing type. Unfortunately most degrees and sometimes subjects as well ask for you to reference using a different guide. There's APA, Harvard, Chicago and MLA just to name a few.
The uni librarians are there to help though. If you're completing an assignment you can send them a a few of your references, or a sample of your written assignment to get their help. If it is an assignment it is unlikely you'll be able to get help with the whole thing, but getting help with some can help you make sure you're on the right track.
2. Applying for internships
Making sure your resume and cover letter include all the necessary details is tricky when you've never worked in a corporate environment. Should you include your summer jobs from year 10? Do you list that award you got in year 12?
The uni library can help you create your resume. They will help to make sure you include what's right and take out anything that you don't need. They can also proofread to make sure it sounds alright and doesn't have any spelling errors.
3. Research
Researching for assignments can be difficult, particularly if the assignment requires a certain number references. The library, with all its books is the best place to start. However finding the one reference that is right for your assignment out of the huge number that is on offer is not a walk in the park.
Asking a librarian to help you sort through shelves will cut down your research time, and may take you in a completly different direction that you would have thought. They can help you find the perfect reference in no time.
While the library is a great place to focus, it has way more on offer than being just a quiet space. Get out there and use the library for all its worth!
