Alphington Grammar School enrols international students across primary and secondary years, as well as into our High School Preparation Program (HSPP). We welcome students from a wide range of countries, including China, the USA, Indonesia, and Vietnam, and we hold this diversity in extremely high regard.
About Us Alphington Grammar School can be found on one idyllic and scenic campus, nestled along the banks of the Darebin Creek and only 7km north east of Melbourne’s Central Business District. With five hectares of land at our disposal, Alphington Grammar School provides ample room for a variety of indoor and outdoor learning spaces.
Alphington is a vibrant and progressive school community that encourages positive, engaging connections between all members. We strongly believe that at the core of everything we do are the relationships we build with each other, connecting both the head and the heart. The strong sense of community that permeates through our staff, students and families underpins the success experienced throughout the educational journey.
Our international students benefit from a personalised approach to their academic studies throughout their time with us. We are aware that not all students will come to us with the same skills or levels of English proficiency, and to address this, Alphington offers various preparation classes and individualised learning plans as students prepare for university studies.
Student Services
Homestay accommodation
Alphington Grammar School requires international students enrolled at the school over the age of 14 to reside in homestay accommodation provided by one of the school’s registered providers and approved by the school. All international students under the age of 14 are to live with a parent or eligible relative who must hold the appropriate visa (subclass 590) obtained by the Department of Home Affairs.
Alphington regards living in Homestay Accommodation as an important element of the international student experience. Homestay living provides students with support and encouragement from local families, as well as an opportunity to learn about and experience authentic Australian home life and culture and develop friendships that often last a lifetime.
Alphington works with the Australian Homestay Network (AHN) and Student Accommodation Services (SAS) to organise our students’ Homestay Accommodation.
Life in Melbourne
Melbourne is home to one of the most diverse and harmonious communities in the world, representing over 140 cultures and ethnic groups. During their time at Alphington Grammar School, we encourage our international students to explore our vibrant city and the opportunities it holds.
Our International Student Coordinator works closely with our international students, their parent liaisons, parents/guardians and homestay families to ensure that the transition from the student’s own home country to Alphington Grammar and life in Melbourne runs smoothly.
The Alphington Grammar School High School Preparation Program
The Alphington Grammar School High School Preparation Program (HSPP) is a VRQA accredited 10 or 20 week program that has been developed to cater for newly arrived International Students (14–18 years). Students partaking in the program will benefit from attending specialised, intensive English language classes on campus before transitioning into the mainstream school.
Co- curricular activities
The Enrichment Program complements the broad, dynamic classroom curriculum, whilst also offering students the opportunity to immerse themselves in an array of character-building programs.
We encourage all students to explore the many activities on offer, in order to broaden their knowledge, learn new skills, and get to know students from across different year levels.
