Avondales Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies provides advanced training in educational theory, practice and research with focus on the professional, ethical, moral and spiritual dimensions of education. The emphasis of the degree is towards improving the professional competency of practicing educators in independent and government schools. In the face of rapid socioeconomic changes and societal expectations, the professional development of teachers is now viewed by many as not just an important ongoing process, but an essential requirement. The Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies is a four-unit course; three of which must come from one of the specialisations. Students enrolled in the Master of Education can choose to exit with a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies after successful completion of the four units.

Standard entry requirements

  • GENERAL ADMISSION CRITERIA.
  • To qualify for admission, you must have completed: An Australian Qualifications Framework AQF Level 7 four-year Bachelors degree in education, bachelors degree followed by a diploma of education, bachelor of teaching, or equivalent from an accredited university or higher education provider.
  • An overseas education qualification comparable to an Australian Qualifications Framework AQF Level 7 or higher.
  • SPECIFIC ADMISSION CRITERIA.
  • The following are the specific criteria for admission: A resume/CV to demonstrate at least two years of teaching experience, including a written summary of your relevant work experience.
  • ADVANCED STANDING.
  • Applicants with an Australian Qualifications Framework AQF Level 8 qualification (or higher) in a cognate area may be eligible for advanced standing (credit recognition). Refer to the Advanced Standing Policy for more information.
  • INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS International applicants must meet the Australian Governments visa requirements to reside in Australia while studying at Avondale University.

  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS Applicants who completed their bachelors degree (or overseas equivalent) in a language other than English must demonstrate English language proficiency by achieving a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no sub-band below 6.0.
