Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants are required to have a bachelor degree, OR a diploma and work experience relevant to the course, or equivalent.
  • Applicants who wish to pursue the teaching stream, are also required to have completed a four year teaching qualification in primary, secondary or K-12 teaching.
  • Within the last 10 years, applicants must have completed a secondary or tertiary mathematics discipline subject that includes calculus (for example, HSC Mathematics Advanced, VCE Mathematical Methods or MTH400 Introductory Mathematics). HSC Mathematics Standard or equivalent is not sufficient. Applicants not meeting this requirement may be admitted provided they enrol in MTH400 Introductory Mathematics as their first subject in the degree.

Recognition

The program also provides an opportunity for secondary teachers in another discipline to retrain as mathematics teachers or for current secondary mathematics teachers to upgrade their qualifications.

Study pathways

For those students who are studying the course to retrain as secondary mathematics teachers, credit may be given for two subjects studied in their first degree.
