The Bachelor of Information Technology has been designed to provide a strong foundation in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of information technology and information systems management. This degree contains a strong, practical understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities and the ability to critically analyse and evaluate complex information and solve problems. The degree provides an awareness of social, economic, cultural, and environmental aspects of information technology and preparation for future management roles as an information technologist.

Structure

In addition to core computer science and IT topics, this course provides for study in industry relevant areas such as professional skills and project management. Instruction in internet-based areas of application is a feature of the program. In the later years students can specialise in particular areas of interest and undertake project work relevant to industry. Students complete studies in areas such as programming, databases, application development, interactive computer systems and software engineering. There is also room in the degree for students to undertake elective topics of their choice. An Information Technology practicum is available in this course which comprises a significant period of work experience.
