The course aims to prepare graduates of broad Information Technology or Computer Science backgrounds to specialise their knowledge in networking and/or cybersecurity. Students will be able to focus their learning on how to manage and administer computer networks and security and prepare them for careers in network administration, network management, or as systems analysts, systems designers, data communications specialists or network security engineers or administrators.

Structure

  • Students complete fifteen core (compulsory) topics in the coursework stream or eleven core (including thesis topics) along with option topics in the research stream selected from a range of topics available. These topics aim to provide students with the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in: theoretical and practical aspects of network systems and information technology.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants must hold a Bachelor degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science or closely related area.

Recognition

This course is accredited by the Australian Computer Society at the professional level. Courses accredited at this level by the Australian Computer Society are recognised internationally under the Seoul Accord.

The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, consider applicants who do not hold a bachelor degree or equivalent but can demonstrate relevant higher education study with relevant work experience, or relevant work experience which may meet the requirements for entry into the course.
