Clinical Education is an emergent specialty field of education characterised by a symbiotic relationship between the learner, an experienced clinical educator and the health service. This degree aims to provide health professionals with an understanding of foundational principles of symbiotic clinical education, the ability to demonstrate advanced and applied knowledge and skills in clinical education. Students will also be able to contribute to this specialist body of knowledge by undertaking a piece of educational research.

Structure

Students complete eleven core (compulsory) topics and one option topic chosen from a range of option topics available. These topics aim to provide students the opportunity to demonstrate expert judgement relating to the theory and pedagogy, research and evidence, and policy and practice of symbiotic clinical education within the health professions, universities and health services.

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification and must have a minimum of two years' full-time equivalent teaching work experience in a clinical or health related field such as nursing, midwifery, medicine or health therapy
  • Or hold the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education or hold the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Education from Flinders University or equivalent qualification.Applicants must provide details of their work experience in their SATAC application.

Study pathways

The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, consider applicants who do not hold a bachelor degree or equivalent but can demonstrate relevant higher education study with relevant work experience, or relevant work experience which may meet the requirements for entry into the course.
