Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance

Jazz Music Institute

Type of institution: Higher Education Institutions
Level: Undergraduate
CRICOS: 03720K

This program is divided into three study areas: jazz performance, core studies, and creative studies. The practical areas are complemented by academic subjects designed to accelerate aural comprehension in improvisation, and equip students with detailed analytical knowledge and conceptual understanding of the development of jazz styles. Students also undertake an intensive study of jazz history and investigate the relationship of jazz to its historical and social circumstances. The interrelationships are emphasised throughout the course so that students perceive the integration of practice with theory. The prescribed core repertoire does not preclude the use of other material as appropriate to either individual or class, but it does afford the opportunity to accentuate the links between practice and theory.
