This program is specifically designed to prepare students to become qualified as a secondary school teacher. In years three and four, students complete academic studies alongside their professional studies and their school-based Professional Experience placement, allowing for the integration of theory and practice. It is committed to an academic, research-based approach to developing teachers who are flexible, responsive to academic needs, venturesome, open minded and confident. Teacher education is seen as a university wide program, with integrated academic, educational and professional studies.

Structure

  • 96 credit points
  • minimum 60 credit points at 200 level
  • completion of a qualifying major. School based professional experience units utilise a developmental practicum model that provides a continuous experience in schools. During the professional experience, students are supervised and assessed by an experienced Master Teacher. Master Teachers act as mentors as students plan, program and teach lessons, and play a vital role in introducing them to the teaching profession.

Graduates are eligible for accreditation to teach in NSW government and non-government schools.
