The Bachelor of Arts - Psychology provides a strong foundation for the first three years of the undergraduate degree training program in psychology. The main difference between the accredited Arts and Science psychology degrees is that the Bachelor of Arts - Psychology allows students to choose subjects from across the university, whereas the Bachelor of Science - Psychology requires a proportion of units undertaken to be science subjects. In the first year of these degrees, students will be exposed to a wide range of fundamental psychological concepts. Second and third year provides more specialised units of study that include personality, psychopathology, child psychology and neuropsychology.

Recognition

This program is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC), which enables students to pursue further study in the profession of psychology or a higher research degree.

Study pathways

Honours: available as an additional full-time year to meritorious students. Entry is extremely competitive. Eligible students may meet the requirements for transfer to the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) program subject to meeting transfer criteria. Continuation with the honours year is subject to meeting honours admission requirements. Should a student not meet the requirements, they will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts - Psychology. Admission to the honours years will require a weighted average SNG (Standard Numerical Grade) of 70 over all Psychology units and a weighted average SNG of 75 over all 300 level Psychology units and a minimum of 72 credit points. Applicants to the fourth year honours program who do not meet these requirements may also be considered on an individual basis.
