The Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours) prepares you to become a registered nurse or midwife in four years. Through our accredited nursing course, this joint degree allows you to pursue nursing and midwifery careers in a range of healthcare settings in the private and public sector.

Structure

The course develops through theme studies in the human bioscience, the sociocultural context of health and illness, clinical assessment and nursing practice, midwifery theory and practice and professional practice, which come together in nursing and midwifery practice as demonstrated in the clinical placement units.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants must be 18 years of age by 30 September 2023 in order to meet the mandatory requirements for clinical placements. Underage applicants who can not meet this requirement are not eligible for an offer.All Monash undergraduate courses require you to have successfully completed a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and achieve the required academic entry score. Most Monash faculties generally use your most recent studies for admission however other guidelines may apply where your prior qualification may be considered.

Recognition

Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Division 1 Nurse and Midwife.

Study pathways

All applicants must satisfy the equivalence of the VCE subject prerequisites. University: To be considered on the basis of tertiary study alone, applicants who have completed VCE or equivalent will be required to complete the equivalent of one year (48 credit points) of a recognised university degree and will require an average result of at least 70% (including failed units). For applicants who have completed less than the equivalent of one year of study, both the VCE Year 12 (or equivalent) results and the units completed will be considered. These are minimum requirements, admissions to this course are competitive and applicants may need to meet a higher requirement to be offered a place.TAFE/VET: Graded AQF Diplomas will not be considered for entry into this course.
