This is a unique degree that gives you the opportunity to study tourism with a focus on sustainability. You will explore many facets of the tourism industry including policy issues relating to tourism and events, and the planning and management of sustainably coordinated events and festivals. You can expand your expertise and career prospects even further by combining Tourism and Events with another major. Recommended double majors include Public Relations, Australian Indigenous Studies, Sociology, Sustainable Development, Community Development, Japanese or Indonesian. When you graduate, you could pursue a range of roles in the tourism and hospitality industry as a tourism manager, event coordinator or event planner. You could work in a local government role in community development through tourism management and event planning, promotion and organising, or work in state and federal government in tourism management and event development, promotion and evaluation.

Structure

You will study core units in subjects such as Destination Management and Sustainable Tourism, and choose electives such as Nature-Based Tourism and Indigenous Tourism Issues and Festivals and Events. As part of your studies you will take field trips to tourism destinations, and learn to think critically and creatively, apply knowledge and information, and communicate effectively.
