Build a thorough knowledge of environmental science and management principles, and learn to solve environmental problems.Environmental scientists, particularly those working in consulting firms, benefit from a knowledge of management principles to help them implement environmental policy in a business context.As a contemporary environmental scientist, you will learn about the scientific, social and heritage aspects of environmental issues. Over the duration of your studies, you will undertake both practical and industry-relevant activities. Through the Bachelor of Environmental Science/Bachelor of Business (Management), you will gain skills and knowledge to help extend your career opportunities into management roles.

Structure

You’ll study the same core subjects required in the individual environmental science and business management degrees. You can also choose to specialise with a minor in environmental biology or environmental chemistry.Environmental chemistry focuses on chemical interactions occurring in the environment and provides the skills and knowledge needed to analyse chemical pollutants in the air, soil, water, and biota using various techniques and tools.Environmental biology covers ecology, plant science and bioremediation relevant to agriculture, horticulture and the natural environment.The business subjects provide an understanding of management to lead teams and projects.

Standard entry requirements

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12. Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL and units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any Mathematics, or equivalent studies.

Recognition

All graduates will be eligible for membership of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand. The program is accredited by the Australian Institute of Management.

Study pathways

Graduates of the RMIT Diploma of Business Administration with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 out of 4.0 may be eligible to apply for credit if successful in gaining a place. Graduates of the RMIT Diploma of Conservation and Land Management may be eligible to apply for credit of up to 1 year.

Further information

Graduates find work in diverse settings including environmental consultancies, analytical services for site assessment and remediation, recycling and treatment companies and forestry, mining and service industries. Private companies have to be responsible for their environmental processes and employ professionals with business skills to manage their performance.
