This course will provide you with the skills you need to acquire, organise, maintain and promote library collections to a variety of client groups. You will learn how to create original catalogue records; search and retrieve information from online databases and other external sources of information; maintain websites and use social media tools; assist clients to access information; provide leadership for library teams; and apply copyright, workplace health and safety, and general industry knowledge in the workplace. To successfully complete this course, you will be required to undertake a compulsory work placement. Detailed information about work placement will be provided at orientation.

When you arrive in Western Australia you must attend an orientation session at your college. At orientation you will:

  • receive your class timetable;
  • receive your student ID card;
  • be given a tour of your campus; and
  • find out important information relating to your studies.

All campuses will provide free internet access, well-equipped libraries, canteens and links to recreational, social, religious and other facilities.

Support staff will assist with:

  • employment advice
  • personal and study issues.
