The Master of Theology provides an opportunity to research the quest by the Church to understand the role of faith in history and to carry out research of enduring significance within the context of contemporary scholarship, using authentic methods of interpretation. The Masters by Research is a postgraduate research degree comprising a substantial research project culminating in the submission of a thesis or equivalent for independent examination by two external examiners. A Masters by Research degree is recommended for students who wish to enhance their knowledge, develop their career potential, or anticipate applying for a Professional Doctorate or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the future.

Structure

Applicants must also meet the following specific requirements. Advanced (Research) Stream: AQF7 in theology or MDiv. GPA of 2.5 overall, with WAM of at least 70% (Distinction, on UNDA scale, or equivalent) in the intended field of research across at least 100 credits in that discipline. Practice of Ministry Stream: AQF7 in Theology or MDiv with 2.0GPA and the Graduate Certificate in the Practice of Ministry with at least a Credit or better in all coursesGeneral Studies Stream: AQF7 in theology or MDiv. At minimum of 2.0 GPA.For students without the prior study in the English language, IELTS of 7.0 in all bands.

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree from a recognised University, which has been completed at a superior standard and which demonstrates the applicant's potential to undertake and complete a research-based study at AQF level 9 equivalence
  • And In exceptional circumstances, an equivalent academic or professional background that is considered by the Dean of the School to be an appropriate preparation for independent study and research work at Masters level.
