The University of Western Australia (UWA)
Unleashing the potential of next generation leadersSince its establishment in 1911, The University of Western Australia (UWA) has built a solid reputation both locally and globally. It is consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities and is known for its remarkable and life-changing contributions in teaching, learning and research. At UWA are committed to shaping the next generation of leaders through experience-rich education, world-leading research and industry collaboration. We understand that to prosper in today’s unpredictable world and solve the challenges we face, we must work with, and nurture, the great minds of the future. Prime locationSet on 65 hectares, the main UWA campus is located on the banks of the Swan River, or Derbal Yerrigan, on the land of the Whadjuk Nation. The campus is five kilometres from Perth’s central business district, next to the city’s iconic Kings Park and Swan River. The UWA Health Campus is at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre grounds in Nedlands, and connects students and researchers with hospitals, institutes and healthcare providers. Our Albany Centre is located in the state’s Great Southern, allowing students to study in one of the world’s 36 biodiversity hotspots and experience all that regional WA has to offer. The city of Perth is multicultural, warm and welcoming and its warm, sunny climate makes it the perfect location for international students to reside while studying. Perth is ranked the 6th most liveable city in the world (Economist Intelligence Unit Global Liveability Index) and is in the same time zone as 60% of the world’s population (plus/minus 2 hours), making it easy to stay connected to home.World-class educationA UWA education empowers students to create the best possible future for themselves and others. We celebrate more than 23,000 students (including 5,000 international students from more than 100 countries) who benefit from an unrivalled student lifestyle. Our commitment to students is providing them with a stimulating curriculum built on social responsibility, experience-rich learning and cutting-edge research that will prepare them for the ever-changing world outside their degree.Students build their technical skills and career networks through industry partnerships, work integrated learning, internships, volunteering for credit, networking events and other opportunities. This hands-on approach is highly valued by employers and ensures our graduates are not only set up for their first job but for a successful long-term career.Unrivalled student experienceTo better prepare our graduates for the future of work and equip them with long-term employability, we developed an innovative curriculum that’s unique to WA. This provides students with the flexibility to design a course that meets their needs which, in turn, increases their employment prospects. Students can choose one or two majors over three years and receive the equivalent of a double degree. They can then specialise through a postgraduate degree. There is also access to accelerated pathways to a master’s degree, where students complete a double major and a semester of more advanced study in three years, before completing a full year of postgraduate study. Whatever career path our students seek, they’ll find a degree that fits.Leading global researchThe University is a proud member of the internationally recognised Group of Eight (a partnership of Australia’s leading research-intensive universities) and a foundation member of the Matariki Network of high-quality, research-intensive universities with a focus on student experience. Our world-class research continues to attract the brightest minds around the globe, with many staff awards and achievements. These achievements are key to our mission of advancing the welfare of society and the world. Looking to the futureLike never before, the world needs our leading universities and industry to work together to help solve global challenges. We commit our world-class teaching and research capabilities to addressing these issues – uniting our students, staff and partners – while providing exciting opportunities for students, staff and partners to play a role in the education, leadership and research that will be crucial to the future of our planet and its people.
