Primary teaching is a rewarding profession that can change lives. A primary teacher educates children from Kindergarten to Year 6 (ages 5 to 12 years) and teaches all areas of the Australian primary curriculum. UOW Bachelor of Primary Education graduates focus on educating the 'whole child' and promote lifelong learning in children.This degree is a nationally accredited qualification for employment as a Kindergarten to Year 6 teacher in the public and independent school systems. You will learn through on-campus classes and online learning as well as school and community placements. The extensive professional experience program involves placement in schools from the second year of your degree, allowing you to learn by observation and apply your skills in the classroom early in your degree.During your studies you will have opportunities for rural and international professional experiences, to study overseas with UOW's international exchange and study abroad partners, and to join international cultural immersion programs.
Structure
The Bachelor of Primary Education requires the successful completion of 192 credit points as specified below, including all Professional Experience components embedded in the course and the teaching performance assessment (UOW TPA) in EDPD402.Students may choose to use elective spaces in the degree to complete the Mathematics and Numeracy in Education minor. Subjects completed in this minor will count towards the NESA recognised Mathematics/Numeracy specialisation.Students must successfully complete 48 credit points to be eligible for the first Professional Experience.To be eligible for the final Professional Experience, students must have passed all core subjects in the first three and a half years of their degree, successfully completed the Literacy and Numeracy Test (LANTITE) and be enrolled in any annual and final semester core subjects.Students must not complete more than 60 credit point of 100 level subjects.

Standard entry requirements
Applicants need to have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia. A teaching questionnaire will also need to be completed as part of the application.
Recognition
This degree is accredited and recognised as a national professional teaching qualification. Students seeking work outside NSW or Australia are advised to check with potential employers and other teacher registration authorities for any additional requirements. All students completing a NSW teacher education course will need to pass an approved literacy and numeracy test.
Study pathways
If applicants can demonstrate they have met the learning outcomes for UOW subjects through prior learning, such as previous tertiary or TAFE qualifications, they may be eligible for credit towards their degree. Where relevant to the UOW degree, specified credit may be given for specific subject(s); where not relevant to the degree, unspecified credit may be awarded.
