The Master of Professional Engineering (Mechanical) is designed to facilitate a broader and deeper approach to mechanical engineering which leads to a formal qualification at the Masters level. The program duration is between 1-3 years full time depending on the student’s prior qualification/s.The program focuses on:Fundamental background knowledge to successfully study mechanical engineering at an advanced level. Advanced engineering skills and knowledge required by a practicing mechanical engineer.Capstone courses mechanical engineering while also completing an advanced level research program.Graduates of this program will have the knowledge, and technical and professional attributes to provide innovative solutions to society’s needs now and into the future.

240 units, of which, 190 units are core courses, 40 units are directed courses and 10 units are elective courses.

  • Graduates from the University of Newcastle or another institution with a non-engineering Bachelor Degree with at least 20 units of study in Mathematics (especially calculus and linear algebra)

Graduates of an Australian Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree, or equivalent, can complete the MPE in just one year. This program is seeking provisional accreditation with Engineers Australia; and so international students seeking professional recognition from Engineers Australia and the Washington Accord, or those wishing to extend their engineering and professional expertise in an Australian context, will find the 2-year Master of Professional Engineering is the ideal program. The study program will be designed to build on their prior studies and develop the core technical competencies to ensure students qualify - these will be chosen from areas such as managing engineering projects, modelling and control, engineering complexity, advanced mechanics of solids and FEA, mechanical design, fluid mechanics and CFD.
