The Bachelor of Midwifery provides students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to provide care, support and advice to women during pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatally. There is a strong focus on theory and practical experience, and students learn in a unique, clinican led, on campus simulated hospital and health service. Students have the opportunity to practice their skills through real-life scenarios and are confidently prepared for clinical practice. The simulated hospital environment fully led by practicing registered nurses and midwives (clinicians), known as the Horizon Hospital and Health Service (HHHS), is the only one of its kind in South Australia.

Standard entry requirements
- Qualify for South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) with competitive ATAR
- Or complete secondary education equivalent to SACE
- Complete International Baccalaureate Diploma
- Complete or partially complete higher education program
- Complete four Open Universities Australia courses at undergraduate level or above
- Complete an Advanced Diploma or above
- Qualify for special entry
- Complete a Foundation Studies program
- And meet any pre-requisite and academic requirements. International students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained the required standards prior to admission.
Recognition
Graduates satisfy the academic requirements for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. The requirements for registration are determined by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
Study pathways
High achieving students with a competitive grade point average (GPA) may be given the opportunity to undertake the Bachelor of Midwifery with a linked Bachelor of Nursing pathway comprising four years of full-time study. If students obtain a credit level or higher grade point average (GPA) they may also be accepted into the Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) degree and, depending on results, may be eligible to proceed to postgraduate research degree study.

Further information
All students who undertake activities where interaction with the public is required must obtain a current National Police Clearance and a Current National Criminal History Record Check (Child-Related Clearance) from the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI). This certificate is valid for the duration of the program. On entry to the qualification students must confirm that they meet the 'Fitness to Practice in Clinical Placements' requirements.
