The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is an industry-relevant postgraduate qualification for students who have already completed a three-year bachelor degree and would like to increase their employment prospects with a teaching qualification specialising in secondary education. The curriculum is solely focused on the education of children from Year Seven to Year 12. Practical learning is a major component and students complete 60 days of professional experience placements, starting in the first year.

Standard entry requirements
- An AQF Bachelor degree or equivalent from a recognised higher education institution with a competitive GPA, noting that entry is competitive and based on academic merit
- And a major and preferably a minor in the Learning Area in which they intend to specialise, aligning with the Australian Curriculum (Majors consist of a minimum of 6 courses/27 units or equivalent with a minimum of 2 courses at Australian 3rd year undergraduate level or equivalent. Minors consist of a minimum of 4 courses/18 units or equivalent with a minimum of 2 courses at Australian 2nd year undergraduate level or equivalent). International students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained the required standards prior to admission.
Recognition
Successful completion of this program provides a recognised academic qualification which will enable graduates to apply for teacher registration in South Australia, interstate and some overseas countries. Applicants should note there are other criteria determining eligibility for registration by the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia and other registration and regulatory authorities. Applicants are advised to check registration requirements as they are subject to change.

Further information
All applicants will be required to submit a 400-600 word Teaching Capabilities Statement with their SATAC application about their motivation to teach. A successful Working with Children Check (WWCC) with the Department of Human Services is required for all students prior to undertaking any professional experience placement that involves contact with minors. These placements form a compulsory part of the program. Students will also be required to undertake a criminal history screening through the Department of Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) and mandatory child-safe environments training. All students must meet the required standard in the national Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) prior to graduation.
