The Master of Sport Management is designed to develop critical, interpretive and problem-solving skills, and to provide a significant overview of the sport industry. The course develops advanced skill sets needed for managers to operate in the sport industry. The course provides theories, models and case studies in order to understand the complex nature of the sport industry. Graduates may pursue careers in such fields as: sport marketing; sport event; management; venue and facility management; sports development; sports administration; operations; management.

Structure

All students must complete a total of 72 credit points made up of 12 subjects, comprising four core subjects (24 credit points), a specialisation in sport management comprising five subjects (30 credit points) and three elective subjects (18 credit points). The course may be completed in one-and-a-half years of full-time or three years of part-time study.

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies. If the previous qualification is not in a related field, applicants require a minimum of two years' relevant work experience. Applicants with a relevant graduate certificate must have completed it with at least a credit average. The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0
  • Or TOEFL: paper based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21
  • Or AE5: Pass
  • Or PTE: 58-64
  • Or CAE: 176-184.

Study pathways

Students may be granted a maximum of eight subject exemptions, of which four core subjects may be approved from prior undergraduate study.
