Social Work is a key profession in the promotion of social justice and social welfare in Australian society, and internationally. Social workers are involved with people at individual, family, and community levels to bring about change. Social workers require strong analytical skills and a high level of knowledge in order to understand and address the causes and dynamics of social disadvantage. At the same time, they require a large repertoire of skills for working with individuals, groups and communities to assist them in gaining greater control over resources and decision-making. The degree course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for contemporary social work practice. On completion of the course, students will have a strong grounding in the following areas: interpersonal and groupwork, community development, policy analysis, social research and social action.

Standard entry requirements

Completion of the first three years of ABSW Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent with at least half of the completed Bachelor of Social Work units passed with a distinction average. International: PLUS IELTS (or equivalent): Overall score of 6.0 (with no band less than 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking).

Study pathways

Students accepted into the course will receive credit for all units already undertaken in their Bachelor of Social Work, normally consisting of a full three years of credit.
