This program is comprised of coursework, project work and research, designed to enable students to acquire specialised skills and expertise in their chosen engineering discipline. It will enable students to acquire advanced theoretical knowledge and critical analysis skills and apply these to research and complex technological problem solving scenarios. Additionally it provides pathways to higher research degrees. The program currently offers specialisations in two sub-disciplines: Telecommunications and Electrical Power. The course provides opportunities for suitably qualified persons to acquire the skills and expertise necessary to gain employment in the fast growing fields of Telecommunications, and Power industries. Emphasis is placed on topics which are required to support international trends in mobile broadband, fibre optic communications, growing applications such as sensor networks and machine to machine communications, power generation and distribution. The material taught in the course units enables students to acquire expertise and enhance their communication skills to elucidate complex technical problems and solutions in given scenarios.

Study pathways

Students with a 4-year engineering degree are eligible to apply for a 48 credit point exemption but this will be assessed on an individual basis.
