Scholarships for International students
Australian tertiary education can be expensive, but you’d be surprised at how much money a scholarship can save you. Australian universities have their own scholarship application policies and procedures. Be sure that you read the fine print to ensure you’re eligible to apply. Some universities require an offer of admission letter before you apply for a scholarship and some universities automatically consider a candidate upon enrolment.
If you’re not aware of some of the scholarships Australian universities have to offer, we’ve laid out some 2019 and 2020 scholarships for you to get familiar with.
Bond University – Gold Coast, QLD
Excellence Scholarship – Europe, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India or Pakistan
The Excellence Scholarship is an award to students who have a proven history of high academic achievement. It is eligible to citizens from within a European country or a citizen from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, or Pakistan. The scholarship offers a 25 per cent tuition remission for recipients from Europe, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong while recipients from India and Pakistan are awarded with a AUD$10,000 tuition fee scholarship which are paid in two $5,000 instalments over the first two semesters.
Important dates:
• 5 July 2019 for students commencing in September 2019 semester
• 18 October 2019 for students commencing in January 2020 semester.
• 24 January 2020 for students commencing in May 2020 semester.

Murdoch University – Perth, WA
Murdoch University Academic Excellence Awards (MUAEA’s)
Murdoch University rewards commencing international students with a high academic record. International students with an average grade of 75 per cent or higher or an equivalent GPA in a bachelor’s degree course are eligible to apply for this scholarship. It is open to undergraduate and postgraduate programs and is valued at AUD$5,000. There is a total of 47 Academic Excellence Award Scholarships with 35 scholarships for undergraduate students and 12 for postgraduate students.
Important dates: Closes on Monday 5 August 2019 (4:00pm) Australian WST
*Students are only eligible to apply once they have received an offer letter from Murdoch. Upon receiving, students must then fill out a scholarship application form
Scholarship for Scientific Excellence – undergraduate and postgraduate
Prospective international students who are interested in studying a course located in the School of Engineering and Information Technology at Murdoch University are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Students must have an average grade of 92 per cent or higher, in their prior completed course or have achieved equivalent exceptional performance in any STEM discipline before applying to Murdoch University. The scholarship is valued up to AUD$20,00 for undergraduate students and up to AUD$10,000 for postgraduate students.

Western Sydney University – Sydney, NSW
Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Postgraduate Scholarships
The scholarship is eligible to all prospective international students commencing in Spring July 2019 or in 2020, which means there are no scholarship applications necessary after enrolling. It’s eligible for students who are interested in taking any CRICOS registered undergraduate degree but does not apply to the Doctor of Medicine program. Successful recipients will get 50% tuition fees per session for a full-time enrolment for the duration of the degree up to a maximum of three years.
Important Dates: None, all new enrolling applicants will be considered and shortlisted for the upcoming Spring and 2020 intakes.

University of Melbourne – Melbourne, VIC
Bachelor of Arts International Scholarship
This scholarship is only eligible to international students who are citizens of India, Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Vietnam or Thailand (eligible countries may change from year to year) It offers students a 25 per cent or 50 per cent fee remission or a AUD$5,000 bursary to international students who have excellent academic results and are interested in studying in areas of art such as historical, philosophical, cultural or social studies or even language and literature.
Important dates: Students must have applied for a Bachelor of Arts course by 30 October to be automatically considered for this award for Semester 1 entry; or apply by 31 March for Semester 2 entry
Bachelor of Commerce Undergraduate International Merit Scholarships
High-achieving international students who are looking to study a Bachelor of Commerce in University of Melbourne are eligible to apply to the Commerce Undergraduate International Merit Scholarship at Melbourne University. There are no applications required to be considered for this scholarship; although, there are only 10 scholarships to be awarded which makes this scholarship incredibly competitive. The university selects successful applicants based on their most recent academic merit. The scholarship offers a 50 per cent fee remission for the duration of the Bachelor of Commerce.
Important dates: All documents will be assessed upon enrolment; you will be automatically considered for the award if deemed successful
Deakin University – Burwood, VIC
Deakin India 25% Merit Scholarship
This scholarship only applies to applicants who are Indian citizens and are currently residing in India. The scholarship offers a 25 per cent tuition fee of the total indicative fee on your offer letter and are only for students with outstanding academic achievements. Applicants must have an overall score of 75 per cent and above when applying for an undergraduate or postgraduate program.

Deakin International Scholarship
Deakin University recognises international students and their academic abilities. If you’ve achieved a 65 per cent average in your recent field of studies and have planned on studying a coursework degree at Deakin University, you may be eligible for this scholarship. To successfully apply for this scholarship, you are required to submit a 300-word personal statement on why you make a good candidate, fill out a scholarship application form and show evidence of academic transcripts. The university has a fixed number of scholarships and all applicants should meet all the minimum requirements upon applying to avoid disappointment.
Important dates: None, this scholarship is open to all international students commencing studies at Deakin
The Queensland University of Technology – Brisbane, QLD
Su Mon Wong Scholarship for Excellence in Marketing
This scholarship is for those International students who are currently majoring in a Master of Business or Bachelor of Business at Queensland University of Technology. Students who demonstrate a grade point average (GPA) of 5.5 or higher is encouraged to apply. The current student scholarship is open to all Australian, New Zealand and International students and successful applicants will receive a grant of $10,000 to cover your education expenses in your final year of study.
The grant will be a direct payment to your personal bank account with half of the payment made in Semester 1 and the other half in Semester 2 – but only if you satisfy the conditions of the award. Not only do you get a large grant, but you will also have the opportunity of being mentored by an industry professional throughout the remainder of your study program.

School of Accountancy Honours Scholarship
The Queensland University of Technology is offering international students a scholarship if they intend to study a Bachelor of Business in Accountancy. You’ll receive a scholarship worth of $10,000 for one year and will be paid in two instalments over two semesters. The conditions for this scholarship are that students must maintain satisfactory progress in the course, maintain a GPA of 5.5 or above and maintain at least 30 hours each week to research work.
Important dates: This scholarship is offered annually, with a closing date of 31 January each year.
