Richard Oertel Memorial Mathematics Grant

The Richard Oertel Memorial Grant is a perpetual award that honours the late Dr Richard Oertel who lectured in mathematics at the UniSA Whyalla Campus and previously at Mawson Lakes (formerly The Levels).

Eligibility

The grant will be awarded to a student who is enrolled full-time in the second or third year of a Bachelor of Mathematics program at UniSA. The recipient will receive up to $1,000. The grant will be paid in a single instalment of $1,000 after the Study Period 2 census date of the second or third year of study, provided the recipient maintains full-time enrolment and satisfactory academic merit. The eligible programs are: - Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences - Bachelor of Mathematics (Data Science) - Bachelor of Mathematics (Industrial and Applied Mathematics) The grant is designed to assist recipients meet the costs associated with study including textbooks, travel costs, computing equipment or other out-of-pocket expenses. Applicants will be asked to provide a personal written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing: - Reasons for studying their current program. - Academic achievements. - Future career goals. - Any financial disadvantage or hardship that the applicant would like taken into consideration. - How the grant will help meet study related expenses. The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic merit (minimum Grade Point Average of 4.5) and passion for mathematics as demonstrated in the personal written statement. Preference may be given to applicants facing financial disadvantage or hardship.

Amount $1,000
